Dinosaur Discovery Days are an opportunity to view the tracks, bones, and other spectacular examples of geology and paleontology along Dinosaur Ridge with volunteer guides and without the distraction of passing traffic.

These free days run from 10:00am to 2:30pm. During that time, West Alameda Parkway over the Ridge will be closed to vehicular traffic and guides will give demonstrations and answer questions at many of the interpretive stops along the Ridge.  No reservations are necessary.

Admission to the program and the Visitor Center is free.  Shuttle bus transportation (optional) along the Ridge is $2.00 per person.  Buses pick passengers up on the east side of the Ridge approximately every 15 minutes.

Boy Scout Day at Dinosaur Ridge

9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Dinosaur Ridge, just west of Denver, is one of the world's most famous fossil localities, with dinosaur bones and footprints within easy walking distance.  Friends of Dinosaur Ridge and the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists are teaming with Boy Scouts to make a scout day a rewarding experience for scouts of all ages.  Approximately 60 scientists will be stationed along the Ridge and at the visitor center to assist scouts with their badges, pins, and loops.  The Ridge  road will be closed to cars, so the scouts will have space to walk around this National Natural Landmark

DETAILS:

LOCATION:  Dinosaur Ridge Visitor Center, 16831 West Alameda Parkway, Morrison, (Just north of Bandimere Speedway and east of Red Rocks Park)

COST:  $3.00 per person, on time registration, $5 per person late registration (to defray costs of rental equipment and activities).  Lunch not included, but will be available for purchase.  Event patches available for $3.00.

BRING:  Water, sunscreen, weather-appropriate gear, pencil and paper.  Rock samples (optional for Geology Academic pin and Merit Badge).

REGISTRATION:  PDF registration forms available on council web sites and on Ridge web site.  Paper forms also available.  Send registration form and check to Dinosaur Ridge to reserve your time.

TIMES: Merit Badge groups start at 9 and 10.  Cub Scout and Webelos activities start every 15 minutes.  Activities are self paced; scouts talk to scientists at the Ridge stations along the road and a badge stations at visitor center.

WHAT TO EXPECT:  Cub and Webelos activities will take 2.5 to 4 hours, depending on the interest of the scouts.  Merit Badge activities will take all day.  Scout adult supervision and youth protection guidelines apply.

All programs usually take place between 10:00am and 2:30pm.

Please note: Road closure may actually take place up to one hour prior to the event start-time and will be in effect for up to a half-hour afterwards. Please park vehicles at the Dinosaur Ridge Visitor Center or at the lot located at the base of the east side of the Ridge. Parking is not allowed on Jefferson County 93 on the west side of the Ridge.  Detoured traffic should use S. Rooney Rd if coming from the east side of the Ridge, and Jefferson County 93 from the west side of the Ridge.  As this event is held entirely outdoors, adverse weather conditions may result in cancellation - Please call (303) 697-3466 ext. 0 for updates.
