Calendar of Events 2012

January 21st-January 29th: National Nuclear Science Week
Small exhibits in Trek Through Time will include dating the ash layer, uranium in the dinosaur bones, and radon as a geologic hazard.

March 21st: Annual Meeting and Volunteer Awards Dinner
The annual business meeting with election of board members, a presentation of volunteer awards and a short talk will follow dinner. Time and location TBA.

May 12th: Dinosaur Discovery Day: Boy Scout Day!
Geology exhibits and hands-on dinosaur and rockhounding activities at the Visitor Center.  Expert guides at stops on the Dinosaur Ridge Trail. Activities suitable for scouts to earn the belt loop, academic pin, or Geology Merit Badge.  9AM-3PM. Scouts must register. Public is welcome.

June 9th: Dinosaur Discovery Day: National Get Outdoors Day!
Geology exhibits and hands-on dinosaur and rockhounding activities at the Visitor Center. Expert guides stationed along the Ridge Trail. Hike at your own pace or take the shuttle bus ($3, age 4-5 $1.50, 3 and under free). 10AM-2PM

June 18th-June 19th  (Monday & Tuesday) Teacher Enhancement Course,
“Dinosaur Ridge Teachers’ Workshop,” taught by Dr. Pete Modreski and Dr. Norb Cygan, classroom and mainly outdoor instruction,  8:30 am – 5:00 pm. Credit available through Colorado School of Mines. For more information or to register visit http://te.csmspace.com/register.php

June 25th-June 27th: Teacher Enhancement Course
“Geologic Principles for Educators”  by Mike Zawaski, geologist and educator. College credit available through Western State College. Visit www.ObservantNaturalist.org  or call Mr. Zawaski at 970-302-8043.

July 14th: Dinosaur Discovery Day: Reptile Day!
Live reptiles and birds on display and hands-on dinosaur and rockhounding activities at the Visitor Center. Expert guides stationed along the Ridge Trail. Hike free or take the shuttle (($3, age 4-5 $1.50, 3 and under free). 10AM-2PM

July 30th-August 2nd:  (Monday through Thursday) Teacher Enhancement Course
“Hands-on Rock & Fossil Activities for Middle School Students, Aligned to Dinosaur Ridge and Triceratops Trail” by Marsha Barber, K12 educator. For National Preparedness Month learn about hazards, preparedness and response, as well as hands-on dinosaur and rockhounding activities, at the Visitor Center. Expert guides stationed along the Ridge Trail. Hike free or take the shuttle (($3, age 4-5 $1.50, 3 and under free).

October 13th: Dinosaur Discovery Day: Girl Scout Celebrate National Fossil Day!
Geology exhibits and hands-on dinosaur and rockhounding activities at the Visitor Center. Expert guides stationed along the Ridge Trail. Activities suitable for scouts to earn patches and other awards. 10AM-3PM. Scouts must register. Public is welcome.
